Benchmark Tests of EXPRO’s Formulation
To ensure EXPRO’s superior performance the formulation has undergone several tests. The EXPRO formulation has been compared to five equivalent products available on the market. The tests, conducted and quality assured by the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), encompass water repellency, contact angle (beading effect), and biodegradability. These tests are internationally standardized, ensuring reliable and comparable results.
ISO-Standardized Tests
EXPRO’s liquid, along with five other products on the market, has undergone two internationally standardized tests: Spray/Wetting Test (ISO 4920:2012) and Contact Angle/Roll-off Test (ISO 19403-7). Both tests were performed and administered by RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden on behalf of and according to instructions from Brunngård Group. To achieve comparable and neutral test results regarding the liquid’s water-repellent properties, the instructions on each product packaging were disregarded. All products have been tested under the same conditions as follows:
- The same amount of liquid, 3 g for polyester and 6 g for cotton, from each product was applied to a surface of approximately 20 x 20 cm.
- The product was applied at room temperature by spraying it in the center of the material from a distance of 15–20 cm.
- The treated material was left to dry at room temperature at least 16 hours before analysis.
- All products were applied using neutral and identical bottles and nozzles.
- To ensure accuracy and validity, each test was replicated multiple times.
SPRAY TEST / Wetting Test (ISO 4920:2012)
Evaluates the water-repellent properties of textiles.
Materials tested: Cotton canvas and polyester shell fabric.
Procedure: A total of 250 ml of deionized water at room temperature was applied to the material using a spray nozzle over a duration of 25–30 seconds. The material was positioned at a 45-degree angle relative to the spray nozzle, with a distance of 150 ± 2 mm between the nozzle and the material. Measurements were performed at room temperature, and the results were evaluated through visual inspection, using a scale of 0–5 as per the standards of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC).
Results: EXPRO demonstrated superior water-repellent properties for both cotton and polyester fabrics.
ROLL-OFF TEST (ISO 19403-7)
Evaluates the ability of water droplets to bead and the angle at which the water droplet rolls off the surface.
Materials tested: Cotton canvas and polyester shell fabric.
Procedure: A 30 μL drop of deionized water at room temperature was carefully applied to the material. The material was inclined and the entire process was recorded on video at a resolution of 2.5 frames per second. The roll-off angle was determined as the angle of inclination at which the outer edge of the drop moved at least 1 mm. To ensure accuracy and validity, each test was replicated five times for each material and product.
Results: EXPRO demonstrated superior water-repellent properties for both cotton and polyester fabrics.
BIODEGRADATION TEST (OECD 301 D)
Evaluates the biodegradability of chemicals by measuring how well a substance breaks down over 28 days.
Requirements: According to OECD 301D (Closed Bottle Test), a product is considered biodegradable (as demonstrated by oxygen consumption) if it reaches 60% degradation within a 10-day window.
Results: EXPRO’s water repellent liquid surpasses the minimum certification requirements, achieving 90% degradation within the 10-day window, thereby confirming its biodegradability.
